Epic Games has declared it is taking legal action against a Fortnite player for cheating during a tournament. The company recently filed a lawsuit against Sebastian Araujo, citing multiple instances of alleged cheating that occurred during competitive gameplay.

The lawsuit states that Araujo has employed cheating software in several Fortnite tournaments, providing him with an “unfair advantage over other players who do not cheat.” Specifically, Araujo is accused of using aimbot software and cheats that enable him to track other players through walls. Moreover, Epic claims that Araujo’s use of these cheats in Fortnite competitions allowed him to collect thousands of dollars in prize money.

“Araujo earned thousands of dollars that other competitors in the tournaments—who played fairly—had no genuine opportunity to win,” the lawsuit reads.

“We want Fortnite tournaments to be enjoyable and fair for all participants. Individuals who cheat in tournaments to gain an unfair edge ruin the experience for everyone. We are implementing significant changes to combat cheating in our tournaments, including taking legal action against players who violate our rules,” stated Brent Coyle, Competitive Director at Epic Games.

This is not the first instance of Epic Games pursuing action against Fortnite cheaters. In 2022, the company successfully won a lawsuit against an Australian Fortnite cheater, and in a notable turn of events, Epic donated the settlement funds.
