A journalist speculates on what it could possibly be

As we approach 2025, Microsoft is undoubtedly still strategizing what its release schedule will look like in the upcoming year – and a new statement from journalist Jeff Grubb suggests that those strategies are still being solidified at this moment.
During a livestream discussing last week’s The Game Awards, Grubb commented on Xbox and its objectives over the next few years. According to the Giant Bomb host, Microsoft has “just now” postponed one of its significant 2025 titles to 2026.
“Xbox had a big game that was expected to launch in 2025 that just now got delayed,”
Grubb further suggested that The Outer Worlds 2 — which reappeared during TGA 2024 — has been positioned for 2025 instead of this mystery title. The host then speculated that this game could possibly be Perfect Dark, although details regarding that title’s release timeframe have yet to be verified by Microsoft.
Undoubtedly, this so-called ‘major game’ could refer to a multitude of titles – Fable, Gears of War: E-Day, DOOM: The Dark Ages, or even South of Midnight – though the latter seems improbable given its extensive media exposure recently. Regardless, this is all speculation about an internal delay, so we will simply have to wait and see how matters unfold for Microsoft in 2025 and beyond.
Which upcoming Xbox game do you think Grubb is referencing? Share your thoughts on this reported news below.
