The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim has just premiered in theaters this weekend, but you can already reserve your copy of the anime on 4K Blu-ray. Indeed, the anime is getting a 4K Blu-ray release with a steelbook case. The Limited Edition Steelbook of The War of the Rohirrim is available for preorder at $38 on Amazon and Gruv. Given the massive popularity of The Lord of the Rings, you will definitely want to secure your preorder for the collectible edition at your earliest convenience. We wouldn’t be shocked to see this sell out quickly at Amazon. For additional The War of the Rohirrim collectibles, including action figures and Funko Pops, check out our merchandise roundup.

The Limited Edition Steelbook of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim on 4K Blu-ray
$38
The Limited Edition Steelbook of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim includes 4K Blu-ray, 1080p Blu-ray, and digital formats of the new anime. With Amazon’s preorder price guarantee, you will only be charged the lowest price available from the time you order until release. Quite frankly, I am slightly surprised that Amazon’s launch price is $38 for this edition. Considering the prestige of The Lord of the Rings and the price of recent steelbooks, I expected it to be higher.
This steelbook also looks quite impressive, featuring artwork of Helm Hammerhand (voiced by Brian Cox) and Hera (voiced by Gaia Wise). The inside of the case showcases a map of Rohan, which is a lovely homage to the books that often feature similar designs on their inner covers or as fold-out inserts.
Preorders are currently open at Amazon and Gruv, and Walmart’s listing should go live soon. Walmart is also preparing to
preorders for a standard steelbook edition of The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, scheduled for release on January 7.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim on 4K Blu-ray
$28
If you prefer not to invest in steelbook editions, you will have the option to preorder the standard version of the 4K Blu-ray for $28 at Amazon or Walmart. The actual case design has not yet been revealed, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the stunning movie poster displayed above serves as the cover art. Currently, the standard 4K release appears to include only the 4K Blu-ray disc and a digital copy, excluding the regular Blu-ray. We will update this information if the listings change to include the regular Blu-ray disc as well.
The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim on 1080p Blu-ray
$23
The standard 1080p Blu-ray edition is available for preorder at $23 on Amazon. This version will likely feature the same cover art as the standard 4K edition. Amazon’s listing only mentions the Blu-ray disc, indicating you probably won’t receive a digital copy with this option.
Additional Lord of the Rings Preorders
The War of the Rohirrim was produced by the anime studio Sola Digital Arts. The film is set 183 years before the narrative of The Lord of the Rings and draws inspiration from Peter Jackson’s beloved trilogy of films. Based on a reference in the appendix of The Lord of the Rings, The
The War of the Rohirrim centers on the realm of Rohan and its sovereign, Helm Hammerhand—the namesake of Helm’s Deep—and the kingdom’s conflict with the Dunlending marauders of Dunedain.
The 4K Blu-ray release of the anime might unfortunately be unavailable for this festive season, but you can still secure the newly designed Lord of the Rings Trilogy One Ring Gift Box. Scheduled for release on December 20 and currently available for preorder at $145, here’s a chance to grab the remarkable 4K trilogy box set featuring The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. It includes both the extended and theatrical versions for all three films. The set comes in a book-like box with a synthetic leather finish. Additionally, there’s a map of Middle-earth printed on the inner cover of the “book.” You will also receive a replica of the One Ring from the Noble Collection, which includes a chain so you can wear it as a necklace, along with a pouch bearing the LOTR logo.
Meanwhile, Walmart is set to offer a limited steelbook edition of The Fellowship of the Ring on January 7. Following the initial preorder sellout, Walmart has replenished stock of the film for $38.81. If this steelbook seems familiar, it is indeed the same design found in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Limited Edition Steelbook Collection that was reissued earlier this year and quickly sold out. It remains to be seen if Walmart will also release The Two Towers and The Return of the King individually.
If you’re eager to watch The Lord of the Rings before attending The War of the Rohirrim in theaters, the current 4K Blu-ray box set is available for $65 (was $90) at Amazon. If you don’t mind standard Blu-ray, Amazon also has a fantastic deal on the The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Extended Editions for just $30.

As mentioned, The War of the Rohirrim draws from the appendices of The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien crafted a wealth of supplementary stories and histories of Middle-earth while creating The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. It may be beneficial to read The Lord of the Rings (along with its appendices) before or after viewing The War of the Rohirrim, and currently, Amazon still has the Tolkien Illustrated Editions available at prices close to Black Friday and Cyber Monday discounts.
The major highlight here is that The Lord of the Rings Illustrated Edition features 30 vibrant illustrations by Tolkien himself, and it stands as one of the most beautiful editions of Tolkien’s beloved fantasy narrative that you can acquire. It showcases gilded edges adorned with Elvish script, a dust jacket enhanced with foil lettering, and an embossed image of The Eye of Sauron. Additionally, this edition includes two fold-out maps and a ribbon bookmark. If you’re not inclined to spend $40 on a book, Amazon also offers The Lord of the Rings Deluxe Edition, featuring a lovely suede-like cover, for just under $20.
The Tolkien Illustrated Editions of The Hobbit and The Silmarillion share similar premium features and are offered at even lower prices than The Lord of the Rings.
Moreover, Amazon has discounts on the 2024 hardcover Collector’s Editions of The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and The Silmarillion. These finely crafted hardcovers feature foil-stamped cover art, stained edges, ribbon bookmarks, and maps of Middle-earth as endpapers. The Collector’s Edition divides The Lord of the Rings into its three parts, but it is beautifully packaged in a box set that includes all three. Released on November 5, Amazon has already listed The Lord of the Rings Collector’s Edition Box Set at a reduced price of $72.63 (down from $105).
