Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has been released and has exceeded expectations, but Lucasfilm Games believes there are “exciting” possibilities for more Indy games in the future.
Bethesda and Machine Games’ initial attempt at an Indy storyline went surprisingly well – even our Indiana Jones and the Great Circle review received high praise for the game, and Harrison Ford himself commended the “fantastic” effort that went into it – so, good news: more thrilling adventures are on the horizon.
Lucasfilm Games’ vice president and general manager Douglas Reilly stated to Variety that, for now, the teams are “dedicated to releasing this title… and ensuring its success,” while developer Machine Games focuses on the upcoming DLC, The Legacy of the Giants.
However, the company is still contemplating what comes next. “I believe we are always in search of great narratives,” Reilly noted. “The positive aspect is, there’s plenty of space between the films where we could craft more Indiana Jones tales that I find would be quite intriguing.” The Great Circle itself takes place between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, indicating there are various gaps available for exploration.
Furthermore, any future Indy games are likely to align with the context of the films. When asked if The Great Circle is considered ‘canon’ within the series, Reilly responded that “we collaborate closely with the studio and franchise management, so yes, it is intended to be an authentic Indiana Jones experience in that regard.”
