Exciting Lineup: Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Earlier Nation Headline Upcoming Game Awards
With just a few days remaining until The Game Awards 2024, developers are seizing the opportunity to ignite fans’ excitement by disclosing that, indeed, their titles will be showcased – with presentations for both Mafia: The Old Country and Borderlands 4 now officially announced.
Mafia: The Old Country’s “gritty mob narrative set in the harsh underworld of 1900s Sicily” was revealed earlier this year, and creator Hangar 13 has now taken to social media with a simple, “See you at The Game Awards!”. This fourth installment is set to launch next year, making the timing ideal for a more extensive reveal ahead of its first teaser trailer.
Regarding Borderlands 4, Gearbox chief Randy Pitchford has been enthusiastically discussing it since its reveal back in August. He’s now surfaced once more to tease the shooter’s upcoming appearance at The Game Awards. “It’s happening, everyone!,” he posted on social media. “I will be at The Game Awards with a new trailer for Borderlands 4. I can’t wait!”
“Yes, there is GAME PLAY in the trailer!,” Pitchford went on. “Additionally, in addition to a lot of in-game footage, I will share a stunning, never-before-seen cinematic sequence illustrating a moment that takes place roughly halfway between the conclusion of Borderlands 3 and the start of Borderlands 4. I AM EXCITED!”
In other news, Palworld developer Pocket Pair – currently involved in a patent dispute with Nintendo – has confirmed a presence at The Game Awards, promising fans, “You won’t want to miss it!”. Moreover, it might not surprise anyone to hear that Hideo Kojima could also be part of this year’s presentation, his appearance alongside host and close friend Geoff Keighley now nearly as predictable as the sunrise. However, what could he unveil? A release date for Dying Stranding 2? More details on his intriguing Xbox horror game OD? Only time will tell, possibly within a 45-minute segment during the show.
The Game Awards 2024 will be broadcast this Friday, December 13th, at 1am in the UK – however, particularly eager viewers can tune in half an hour earlier for a bit of a pre-show. 20
