Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impression Disqualified in Australia Over Allegations of “Implied Sexual Violence”
The fighting game Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impression has been denied a rating by the notoriously stringent Australian classification board.
Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impression has been effectively prohibited in Australia by the country’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, and the Arts’ Classification Board due to “implied sexual violence”.
While no specific reason was provided on the classification website itself – merely inviting individuals to reach out for more information regarding “reason for refused classification” – a statement from the Australian Classification Board noted that the game “contains a scene depicting implied sexual violence, where an adult male exposes himself to individuals under the age of 18 years”.
The first full-scale fighting game of Hunter x Hunter is set to release in 2025, featuring 3v3 Nen skill team battles. It remains uncertain at this time whether the publisher Arc Machine Works will appeal the decision or modify the game to appease the board.
Just last month, PlayStation pulled Hotline Miami 2 from sale in Australia and refunded PS5 owners who purchased the game, a decade after the controversy surrounding its release down under.
