Celebrating 30 Years of PlayStation: Transform Your PS5 with a Retro Makeover

Sony has unveiled a unique runtime console upgrade for your PS5 that introduces a collection of nostalgia-driven custom sounds and startup settings.

Essentially, it transforms your PS5 to resemble and sound more like Sony’s iconic systems from the past: the PS1! the PS2! the PS3! the PS4! Although not including the PS Vita.

Once you update your console, you may be welcomed with the option to select your favorite console generation. This feature adds a themed visual flair to your PS5 home screen that embodies the look and feel of Sony’s earlier systems.

Your console will also showcase the classic Sony Computer Entertainment logo, followed by a 30th Anniversary screen upon startup, complete with the iconic PS1 startup sound.

Additionally, there is a thank-you message displayed when shutting down or rebooting your console, expressing gratitude to players for being part of Sony’s journey.

It’s a delightful array of features created to celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, which occurs on December 3rd.

Earlier today, Sony released a special thank you video for fans, highlighting some of PlayStation’s most significant and memorable games from the last thirty years. Here in the UK, Sony recently themed a tube carriage on the London Underground.
