Tencent Acquires Majority Stake in Kuro Games, Strengthening Its Gaming Portfolio
Tencent has become the predominant stakeholder of Wuthering Waves developer Kuro Games.
According to Gematsu (via You Putao), Tencent now possesses a 51.4 percent controlling interest in the Chinese studio, making it the largest outside shareholder. Kuro’s leadership confirmed this development to staff through an internal memo.
Tencent reportedly informed Kuro that it would be able to continue its operations independently, while Kuro expressed that the transition will foster a more secure external environment. Kuro was founded in 2014 and has produced several titles including Punishing: Gray Raven and Twin Tail Battleground.
Tencent has established itself as one of the industry’s most significant investors. The Chinese conglomerate has acquired stakes in numerous leading firms including Epic Games, Remedy Entertainment, Techland, FromSoftware (via its parent company Kadokawa), and Krafton.
It also fully owns key development studios such as League of Legends creator Riot Games and UK video game studio Sumo Digital.
