Nintendo’s consoles have featured a wide range of legendary franchises throughout the years, yet one that has not been heavily discussed is Shenmue. While there has been no significant shift regarding this matter, a recent update has sparked renewed optimism.
ININ Games has announced that it has now “officially acquired” the publishing rights to Shenmue III and will have “some news to share about this shortly.” While no exact details are available at this moment, devoted fans of the franchise are already urging for the third installment to be made available on Nintendo’s platform.
“Alright, let’s make a proper announcement about this, shall we? We are excited to reveal that we will be partnering up with Ys Net again in the near future, as we have now officially acquired the publishing rights to Shenmue III. We will have updates to share about this soon, so if you’re interested, stay tuned!”
This beloved action-adventure series, led by Sega’s Yu Suzuki, first debuted on the Dreamcast in 1999 and was followed by a sequel on the same platform in 2001. The third installment began as a Kickstarter campaign and ultimately launched on the PlayStation 4 and Windows in 2019.
