Devolver Digital Pushes Back Multiple Releases to 2025
Little Steps! Skate Tale! Bonus!
Trust Devolver Digital to transform a series of gloomy-faced postponements into an evening of dazzling enjoyment for everyone. According to the developer’s recently broadcasted 15th Annual Devolver Delayed Awards 2024, we now have a clear understanding of which of its games have missed their latest release dates, smoothly gliding into 2025.
To begin with, we have Little Steps – crafted by Getting Over It creator Bennett Foddy, together with Gabe Cuzzillo and Maxi Boch – where players take control of the adult-sized character Nate on a journey of (presumably) self-exploration, literally one step at a time. It features a fully simulated physics-based walking mechanism and a “completely dynamic onesie soilage system,” and you could find yourself navigating your clumsy trot sometime in the next year.
Also extending beyond its previously announced 2024 release window is Stick it to the Stickman from the makers of Broforce, Free Lives. This “groin-kicking, staple-gunning, chainsaw-wielding roguelike brawler” promises “high-impact, physics-centric combat, excessive coffee consumption, and weaponized flatulence” – while that might be an ordinary morning for many, it appears Stick it to the Stickman’s arrival may not be until 2025.
AND THE DELAYS CONTINUE! Developer Sam Eng’s spooky skateboarding game Skate Story (featuring music from New York experimental indie group Blood Cultures) continues its delay journey after missing its original 2023 release date, now bidding farewell to 2024 as well. Skate Story – following the pattern here – is now set to debut next year.
Finally, wrapping up the 15th Annual Devolver Delayed Awards 2024 is Volvy’s Run DX. This one is only delayed in so much as Devolver claims it is, considering it wasn’t previously announced and never had a release date to begin with. As for what it actually is, that remains unclear; on paper, it appears to be an 8-bit side-scrolling platformer featuring Devolver’s creepy rat-like mascot Volvy, but given that its “award” was accepted by Inscryption developer Daniel Mullins – a master of the video game surprise twist – who can say for sure? Mullins, of course, is currently developing Pony Island 2: Panda Circus, and since his appearance at the Delayed Awards largely consisted of him stating, “I didn’t create [Volvy],” who really knows what is accurate anymore.
Amidst all these titles now definitely not launching this year, Devolver also took a moment to acknowledge its games that did make it to release in 2024. All these (and more!) are currently available on Steam with some impressive discounts. There may be 50
