Shuhei Yoshida, a veteran of PlayStation, is departing the company after three decades.
As stated on the PlayStation Blog, the esteemed president of SIE Worldwide Studios will be stepping away from Sony early next year.
“I am departing Sony Interactive Entertainment on January 15, 2025,” Yoshida remarked. “It’s akin to revealing the release date of a new game, something I haven’t done in quite some time [chuckles].”
Yoshida was among the many original figures in the PlayStation initiative dating back to its initial launch in February 1993. He played a crucial role in the evolution of the platform and several of its most acclaimed titles. He is perhaps best recognized for his tenure as SIE Worldwide Studios president from 2008 to 2019, during which he managed PlayStation’s first-party publishing endeavors. More recently, he has been leading SIE’s indie development program.
While Yoshida did not provide a specific reason for his departure from PlayStation, he adopted an optimistic perspective regarding the future of the company.
“I’ve been with PlayStation since the very beginning, and this marks my 31st year with the brand,” Yoshida shared. “When I reached 30 years, I contemplated that it might be time for me to transition. The company is thriving. I adore the PS5 and the titles being released for this platform. Plus, we have a new generation of leadership that I respect and hold in high regard.”
