The 2K Launcher has been officially discontinued.2K announced this information in a forum update and noted that the launcher has been “eliminated from all games that utilized it on Epic and Steam.”
The studio has also terminated the 2K Launcher Beta (which was a completely different launcher) from Sid Meier’s Civilization V.
“On November 25, a subsequent update was dispatched via Steam to ensure the 2K Launcher was entirely uninstalled,” states the update. “You might observe that the 2KLauncher folder was substituted with a text file labeled 2kLauncherRemoved.txt. This file isn’t necessary, and you may delete it without concern.”
2K indicated that this change will affect titles in a completely different manner and with “varying levels of complexity.” For example, it confirmed that this transition will enable XCOM 2 players to utilize mods on Steam Deck.
Several games will be impacted by this modification, including BioShock Remastered, BioShock Infinite, The Mafia Trilogy Definitive Edition, Civilization VI, Civilization V, XCOM 2, and XCOM: Chimera Squad.
The modification will not affect save data or purchases
Providing additional information in an FAQ, 2K clarified that the adjustment will not influence game data or result in players losing access to their purchases. It added that some 2K Launcher data may need to be manually removed and suggested that players might have to restart platforms like Steam to resolve any startup issues related to the transition.
