“136,000 Call of Duty Accounts Banned Since Ranked Mode Launch: We’re Committed to Eradicating Cheating”

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is rapidly approaching the launch of Season 2. Prior to that, the developers are taking a moment to update the community regarding their anti-cheat measures. In summary, over 100,000 accounts have been banned since the introduction of ranked mode, and the developers are striving to implement additional anti-cheat enhancements in Season 2 and beyond.

According to an official blog post, there have been “over 136,000 Ranked Play account bans since the mode was launched.” Importantly, these are indeed account bans – the developers clarify they are not utilizing IP bans “because they often penalize entire groups within a location that aren’t problematic. For instance, a college campus or internet café could be caught up in an IP-based ban wave when only one device was targeted.”

The developers have conveyed that they have introduced “new detection and warning systems for Spam Reporting,” but emphasize that spam reports do not effectively address targeted users because “our system does not consider more than one single report from a player against another.” This is to say, of course, “despite the claims made by cheat developers attempting to sell their unlawful software.”

In Season 2, set to launch on January 28, the developers plan to roll out a “significant” update to the kernel-level anti-cheat driver currently integrated into the game. This will also come with enhancements to “detection systems” on both the client-side and server-side. Looking further ahead to the release of Season 3, the developers intend to introduce a “variety of new technology,” including a “brand-new system” designed to distinguish legitimate players from cheaters.
